What does Word to PDF keep from a DOCX file?
The converter opens the DOCX in your browser and reads the text of each paragraph in the main document body. Empty paragraphs are dropped, and every other paragraph is set in Helvetica on an A4 page with 18 mm margins, under a bold title made from the file name. Headers, footers, footnotes, images and text formatting do not come across. Automatic list numbers and bullets disappear as well, because Word generates them from list settings and does not store them as text.
Tabs and manual line breaks inside a paragraph are not stored as text either, so the words on each side run together. A line typed as 'Name:', a tab and 'Maria Lopez' prints as 'Name:Maria Lopez', and an address split with Shift+Enter prints as one line with no space where each break was. Each table cell becomes its own line. The PDF is named after the file in lowercase with hyphens, so Offer Letter (Final).docx becomes offer-letter-final.pdf.
How does the font size setting change the PDF?
The slider runs from 9 to 20 and starts at 12. Line spacing is the font size times 0.45 mm, with a 5 mm minimum, so sizes 9, 10 and 11 all use 5 mm, 12 uses 5.4 mm and 20 uses 9 mm. After each paragraph comes an extra gap of 35 percent of the line spacing. Because of the minimum, sizes 9 and 10 fit more words on each line than 11 but no more lines on a page.
At size 12, a full page holds 36 single-line paragraphs, or 35 on the first page under the title, so a TXT file of 100 short lines fills three pages. A line holds roughly 90 characters of English text at size 12, about 120 at size 9 and about 53 at size 20.
When is a TXT file the better input?
TXT files are split at every line break, Windows or Unix style, and each line keeps its own place on the page, with blank lines kept as space. That makes this tool a good fit for addresses and lists saved in Notepad, where Text to PDF would join single lines into one paragraph.
Helvetica, the built-in PDF font used here, covers English and Western European letters only. A line containing the rupee sign or Hindi text comes out as garbled characters, so write Rs. instead of the rupee symbol, and export Hindi documents with Word's own Save as PDF, which embeds fonts.
