GIF vs JPG: what changes
- JPG files are usually much smaller than GIF, so this is a good way to save space or speed up a page.
- GIF supports transparency but JPG does not — any transparent areas will be filled with a white background.
- JPG uses lossy compression, so there’s a slight quality trade-off in exchange for a dramatically smaller file.
- GIF can hold animation; JPG cannot, so you’ll get the first frame as a still image.
