TIFF to PNG Converter
Convert TIFF images to PNG format. Keep full quality with lossless compression in a universally supported format. Batch supported.
TIFF vs PNG: what changes
- PNG files are usually much smaller than TIFF, so this is a good way to save space or speed up a page.
- PNG opens everywhere, including older phones, email clients and apps that can't handle TIFF.

Which browsers can convert TIFF to PNG?
Conversion happens inside your browser, which first has to decode the TIFF. Safari does that natively. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot, so for them the page loads a small TIFF decoder (UTIF.js) from this site the first time you convert a TIFF, and the image is decoded in the page without being uploaded.
The decoder handles the compressions scanners commonly use, including uncompressed, LZW and Deflate TIFFs. If a card still reports "Could not convert this file", export the scan again as PNG from the scanning software, or open the TIFF in Paint and save it as PNG. If you later need a smaller copy for email, PNG to JPG Converter works in every major browser.
Is TIFF to PNG conversion really lossless?
PNG compression is lossless, but the canvas in between holds 8 bits per channel in RGB. A 16-bit TIFF, with 65,536 levels per channel, drops to 256 levels. CMYK files are converted to RGB, and a multi-page TIFF yields only one image. Transparency survives, because PNG supports it and no white background is added.
An ordinary 8-bit RGB scan loses nothing visible. For 16-bit masters, keep the original TIFF as the archive copy and treat the PNG as a sharing copy. DPI values and other tags are not copied, while pixel dimensions stay exactly the same. Layered TIFFs saved from Photoshop give the flattened picture, because browsers read only the composite image.
PNG or JPG: which suits your TIFF?
PNG suits line art, documents with text, images with transparent areas and files you will keep editing. Scanned photographs are heavier: a 6 x 4 inch print scanned at 600 DPI is 3600 x 2400 pixels, and at 16 bits per RGB channel that is 51,840,000 bytes (49.44 MB). At 8 bits the raw data is 25,920,000 bytes (24.72 MB), and lossless compression removes only part of that from a detailed photo.
The canvas exports full-colour PNG, so a 1-bit black-and-white scan, which TIFF stores in very little space, can grow considerably; each card shows the size before and after. If the file has to be small for email or an upload form, TIFF to JPG Converter produces a far smaller file at a quality you choose. Converted names keep their base, so scan_001.tiff becomes scan_001.png, and a batch arrives as tiff-to-png-converted.zip.
