WebP to PNG Converter
Convert WebP images to PNG format. PNG preserves every pixel with lossless encoding, and opens everywhere. Batch supported, runs in your browser.
WebP vs PNG: what changes
- PNG files are usually larger than WebP, because PNG stores every pixel without loss. That makes it safe to edit and re-save, although it cannot restore detail the original compression removed.
- PNG opens everywhere, including older phones, email clients and apps that can't handle WebP.
- WebP can hold animation; PNG cannot, so you'll get the first frame as a still image.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the WebP?
Most WebP images on websites are lossy, which is how they stay small. Converting decodes the image to full pixels and stores each one losslessly, including the small errors the WebP compression introduced. A 1200 x 800 image is 960,000 pixels, and at 4 bytes per pixel (red, green, blue and alpha) the canvas holds 3,840,000 bytes (3.66 MB in the tool's units) before PNG compression starts. Flat graphics compress well from there; photos much less so.
Conversion keeps exactly what the WebP contains. Detail that lossy compression removed earlier cannot come back, so a blurry WebP gives an equally blurry PNG. If the WebP was lossless, the PNG looks identical.
Should you convert WebP to PNG or to JPG?
Choose PNG when transparency matters, as with stickers, logos and product cut-outs, or when you will edit the image further. Transparent areas stay transparent here, and PNG adds no new compression loss. For a photo that only needs to open in an older app or pass an upload form that rejects WebP, WebP to JPG Converter gives a much smaller file.
WhatsApp stickers, for example, are 512 x 512 WebP files with transparent backgrounds. Each one converts to a 512 x 512 PNG that keeps the transparency, ready for editing apps or documents that do not accept WebP.
How are the files named and downloaded?
Each output keeps its original name with .png in place of the last extension, so banner.hero.webp becomes banner.hero.png. One converted file downloads directly; two or more come as webp-to-png-converted.zip. You can keep dropping files onto the zone, which reads Add more WebP images once a batch is loaded, and Clear empties the list. Metadata stored in the WebP is not copied. Cards add a percentage only when the PNG is smaller, so a card without one is normal for this conversion.
Images saved from websites are sometimes WebP data under a .jpg or .png name. Browsers decode by content, so such files convert normally here as long as they are real images. If a card shows "Could not convert this file. Try a different file.", the download may be incomplete or damaged.
